RHODES, Iowa – Second-round play at the 107th Western Junior concluded at The Harvester Club on Thursday morning, with the top 44 players and ties advancing to the final round.
After play was suspended at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, tournament officials decided to shorten the event from 72 holes to 54 holes. The final round will be played Thursday afternoon.
Through 36 holes, Sam Carraher, of Crown Point, Indiana, and Trevor Gutschewski, of Omaha, Nebraska, share the lead at 5-under par. Both players returned to The Harvester Club on Thursday morning to complete their second rounds.
Carraher, a Purdue commit, fired a 4-under 68 in the second round, recording five birdies and just one bogey. Gutschewski, a Florida signee, posted a 3-under 69, highlighted by a hole-out eagle on the par-4 7th.
The leaderboard remains tight, with three players tied for third at 3-under, four tied for sixth at 2-under, and six sharing 10th place at 1-under.
In total, 51 players advanced to the final round at 3-over par or better.

The winner this week will join Collin Morikawa, Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk as a Western Junior champion. The top three finishers and ties receive exemptions into the Western Amateur at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois, on July 28-Aug. 2
